About Me
My collages and paintings are imagined visual stories that unfold until they feel complete. The collages are created in a spontaneous process of discovery. I am inspired by the magnificent wilderness vistas of Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado, the brilliant light and ever-changing skies, mountains always on the horizon. Other pieces are improvisational, inspired by music. Paper shapes, colors and textures sing to me and we dance.
The figurative paintings arise from inner visions and dreams. I seek to evoke an experience, a sense of people, places, and moments that inspire viewers to imagine their own stories.
My artistic life began as a child when I taught myself to draw from book illustrations and reproductions. At the Art Institute of Chicago and Columbia College I focused on figurative fantasy themes in the mediums of etching and pen and ink drawing. I made my living for twenty five years as a graphic designer in Chicago, and in Santa Fe after relocating in 1990. In Santa Fe I studied landscape pastel with Jane Shoenfeld, then oil painting with Roberta Remy, Lee Rommel, and others. I have been part of Eli Levin’s and the Eldorado figure drawing groups, and have had numerous pastel and collage shows in Santa Fe.
